Senior First Nations Research Lead

About the role

The University of Southern Queensland seeks a Senior First Nations Research Lead to provide strategic leadership for culturally grounded, ethical, and community‑led research. This full‑time position will honour Country, community, and knowledge while delivering meaningful outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Key responsibilities

• Shape and implement a research agenda that aligns with UniSQ’s First Nations Strategic Workforce Framework and Research Strategy.
• Lead collaborative projects with First Nations communities, Elders, and external partners.
• Secure research grants and funding, and produce high‑quality scholarly publications.
• Ensure research practices are culturally safe, ethical, and responsive to community needs.
• Mentor and support junior researchers and contribute to university-wide First Nations initiatives.

Required profile

• Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person with a proven record of scholarly publications and successful grant acquisition.
• Extensive experience working with First Nations communities and stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to provide strategic leadership and influence institutional research direction.
• Commitment to UniSQ’s vision of empowering First Nations peoples.
