Senior Engineering Manager - Developer Workflows

About the role

Canva is looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead its Developer Workflows teams in Melbourne. You will shape the strategy and culture that enables engineers to build, test, ship, and operate software at scale.

Key responsibilities

• Lead three Developer Workflows teams and coach three Team Engineering Leads to create a high‑performing, inclusive, psychologically safe engineering culture.
• Define and drive the strategy for Developer Workflows across frontend, backend, and platform engineering experiences.
• Partner closely with Product Managers, engineering leaders, and platform teams to improve how engineers build, test, ship, and operate software.
• Translate developer pain points into impactful improvements across CI/CD, IDE tooling, testing frameworks, developer environments, and platform workflows.
• Champion developer satisfaction as a key metric and launch initiatives that help engineers move faster with confidence.
• Support hiring, onboarding, performance management, and career development for engineers and technical leaders.
• Represent Developer Workflows in leadership discussions, planning forums, and company goal reviews.
• Identify cross‑team collaboration and platform standardisation opportunities to enhance the developer experience.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading engineering teams or technical leaders in developer experience, platform engineering, infrastructure, or tooling.
• Strong empathy for engineers and a passion for creating workflows, tools, and environments that enable high performance.
• Ability to define great engineering practices in fast‑moving organisations and continuously raise the bar.
• Data‑informed decision‑making using metrics, developer feedback, and impact measurement.
• Highly collaborative, able to align teams, stakeholders, and priorities across complex technical environments.
