Senior Engineer – Roads & Highways

About the role

SMEC is seeking a Senior Engineer – Roads & Highways to support the delivery of major road and highway projects across South Australia and nationally. You will work within a multidisciplinary team, providing technical expertise in road design, transport planning and traffic engineering while ensuring high‑quality outcomes throughout the project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver civil design for roads and highways, producing detailed engineering outputs.
• Provide technical input on road design, traffic engineering and transport planning deliverables.
• Undertake traffic assessments, intersection analyses, road safety reviews and transport studies as required.
• Prepare engineering reports and contribute to tender proposals.
• Ensure all analysis and design comply with Austroads guidelines, relevant standards and client requirements.
• Collaborate with project teams, road authorities and other stakeholders to maintain coordination and performance.

Required profile

• Qualified civil or transport engineer with several years of experience in road and highway projects.
• Demonstrated ability to develop design solutions and manage technical deliverables.
• Strong understanding of Australian road design standards and Austroads guidelines.
• Excellent communication skills for client and stakeholder interaction.
