Senior Engineer – Billing and Payments

About the role

As a Senior Engineer for Billing and Payments at EatClub, you will own the end‑to‑end flow of money—from customer payment at a venue through partner integrations to settlement and invoicing for venues across Australia, the UK and New Zealand.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and extend payment flows, including new methods, partner integrations and reliability improvements.
• Ensure accurate venue settlements in every market and automate billing processes such as invoicing, fees, tax and collections.
• Collaborate daily with Finance and Customer Support to reconcile money, fix mismatches and replace manual work with automated features.
• Investigate and resolve production failures, add robust testing for financial logic and mentor mid‑level engineers.

Required profile

• At least 5 years of software engineering experience, with 2+ years building production payments or billing systems where monetary correctness is critical.
• Strong understanding of card payment lifecycles (authorisation, capture, refund, settlement) and experience integrating with modern providers such as Stripe.
• Hands‑on experience with double‑entry accounting, ledgers and reconciliation.
• Ability to work closely with Finance, translate business problems into system changes and deliver end‑to‑end production projects.

Required skills

• Stripe (or similar payment provider) integration
• Backend development on cloud infrastructure (AWS, serverless, event‑driven)
• Testing of financial logic
• AI development tools (judgement of applicability)
• Knowledge of PCI DSS, ISO 27001 compliance (nice‑to‑have)
