Senior Data Centre Design Manager

About the role

You will act as the central coordination point for MEP disciplines, architects, external consultants and client teams from concept through to commissioning and handover of data centre projects. The focus is on strong design governance, on‑time delivery, accurate budgeting and compliance with quality, safety and environmental standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design teams for data centre critical infrastructure and run regular design forums with internal engineers, client stakeholders and external consultants.
• Drive process improvements and optimise design tools; prepare business review materials, set cost, quality and schedule metrics, and feed construction data back into continuous improvement.
• Set and manage capital design budgets, contribute to business cases and work with finance to secure funding and track performance.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary resources, manage design changes, and maintain robust document control and change‑management records.
• Champion QA and HSE compliance, capture lessons learned and embed best practices across the mission‑critical portfolio.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Building Services engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Proven experience in an engineering consultancy delivering large, complex building‑services projects, preferably mission‑critical or data‑centre projects.
• Structured design‑management capability, including project execution plans, master programmes, risk and change controls, and cost/quality KPIs.
• Strong stakeholder‑engagement skills with the ability to build trust across clients, contractors, authorities and vendors.
• Working knowledge of Australian codes and standards such as NCC and AS/NZS.

Required skills

• Proficiency with BIM coordination tools, specifically Revit and Navisworks.
