Senior Data Center Mechanical Engineer – Sydney

About the role

Anthropic is seeking a senior mechanical engineer to lead the design and delivery of data‑center cooling and related mechanical systems for its rapidly expanding APAC footprint. Based in Sydney, you will own the mechanical design direction from concept through construction and commissioning, ensuring reliability, efficiency and scalability of high‑density accelerator clusters.

Key responsibilities

• Define and drive mechanical design concepts for cooling plants, chilled‑water distribution, direct‑to‑chip liquid cooling, plumbing and fire‑protection systems.
• Review and approve design drawings, specifications and construction documents produced by external engineering firms.
• Evaluate submittals, shop drawings and equipment selections; provide clear technical responses to RFIs.
• Identify and resolve design conflicts across mechanical, electrical and controls disciplines.
• Lead prefabrication and modular construction strategies, such as modular cooling skids and off‑site piping assemblies, to accelerate capacity delivery.
• Ensure compliance with Australian mechanical, hydraulic and fire codes and local regulatory requirements.

Required profile

• Senior‑level experience in mission‑critical mechanical design for large‑scale data centres or similar facilities.
• Proven ability to manage design packages from Basis of Design through construction and commissioning.
• Strong judgment to make trade‑offs when standard solutions are insufficient.
• Excellent communication skills to act as the primary technical interface with internal teams and external partners.
