Senior Cost Controller

About the role

Queensland Hydro is seeking a Senior Cost Controller to lead cost management for the Borumba Pumped Hydro Energy Storage project. Reporting to the Project Controls Lead, you will work closely with project managers, finance and the PMO to ensure disciplined financial performance across the project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and report monthly project cost performance, conduct variance analysis and advise on cost risks and mitigation strategies.
• Prepare detailed, risk‑assessed cost forecasts and cash‑flow profiles for the entire project lifecycle.
• Manage commitments, allocate and reconcile costs in line with delegated authority and governance frameworks.
• Collaborate with Project Managers, Finance and the PMO to control budget utilisation, analyse trends and identify cost‑optimisation opportunities.
• Maintain data integrity and audit‑readiness of the cost management system (e.g., Contruent, PRISM).
• Provide early warnings on potential cost or schedule impacts, emerging trends and financial risks.
• Ensure all cost control activities comply with PMO frameworks, financial governance and best‑practice standards.

Required profile

• Formal qualification in Finance, Accounting, Construction, Commerce, Engineering or a related discipline.
• Proven experience establishing project baseline cost plans, including risk and contingency allocations, on major infrastructure projects.
• Experience monitoring, controlling and reporting budgets within a major project (PMO) environment.
• Ability to prepare and present key cost reports and forecasts.
