Senior Commissioning Engineer - HV Power Infrastructure

About the role

A leading Australian power and energy infrastructure organisation is seeking a Senior Commissioning Engineer for a permanent role in Melbourne. The position suits someone with strong experience in regulated electricity network environments and a background in testing, commissioning, protection systems, energisation and utility infrastructure. You will own commissioning activities from planning and testing through to energisation and handover on projects up to 500kV, including transmission, distribution, renewable energy, data centre and network infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Lead HV testing and commissioning of primary plant from 415V through to 500kV
• Perform secondary injection testing across protection schemes and test protection relays, control systems, SCADA and communications platforms
• Integrate AC and DC control systems in greenfield and brownfield environments
• Review designs and drawings to validate protection schemes and constructability
• Apply, verify and modify IED settings using OEM software
• Develop commissioning methodologies, test plans, ITPs and acceptance documentation
• Support energisation programs, outages and operational handovers
• Lead commissioning teams and subcontractors, manage schedules and outage coordination, and mentor engineers, technicians and electricians
• Drive a strong safety culture, comply with WHS requirements and report progress and risks clearly

Required profile

• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering or a related discipline
• 5+ years' experience in testing and commissioning of primary and secondary systems
• Proven experience leading commissioning in utility, industrial or infrastructure environments
• Experience in regulated network environments, such as transmission, distribution or substation projects, is strongly encouraged
• Strong understanding of power system protection principles and testing, commissioning and energisation

Required skills

• Protection and control systems: SEL, Siemens Siprotec, ABB Relion, GE Multilin, MiCOM / Areva
• Testing equipment: Omicron Test Universe, CMC256 / CMC356, CPC100, CT analyser, Doble Protection Suite, secondary and primary injection testers
• IEC 61850 exposure highly regarded
