Senior Automation & Control Engineer

About the role

Donaldson is seeking a Senior Automation & Control Engineer to provide expert engineering support for automation systems and control hardware/software. You will design, program, and commission control solutions that meet Australian standards and enhance machine safety.

Key responsibilities

• Provide engineering guidance on automation systems and control hardware/software issues.
• Develop functional specifications and select hardware/software for automation projects.
• Program PLCs, safety PLCs, and PC-based control systems, including HMI development.
• Design, install, and commission control systems while managing technical documentation, electrical drawings, and software version control.
• Prepare project scope, budget, and timeline documentation.
• Support production engineering through root‑cause analysis, equipment uptime (OEE) improvement, and preventative maintenance.
• Lead process improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
• Ensure compliance with Australian electrical and machine safety standards.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in industrial automation and control engineering.
• Proven ability to manage control system projects from design to commissioning.
• Strong knowledge of Australian standards for electrical compliance and machine safety.
• Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and quality standards.

• PLC programming (including safety PLCs)
• PC programming for control applications
