Senior Associate / Special Counsel – General Insurance

About the role

McCabes is seeking a highly skilled Senior Associate or Special Counsel to join its General Insurance team. The role offers the chance to work on complex liability matters across both Insurance and Government divisions, handling high‑value claims and providing strategic legal advice.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee and manage a diverse caseload of general liability claims, including large catastrophic losses.
• Provide guidance, mentorship, and supervision to junior lawyers.
• Represent clients in negotiations, mediations, and court proceedings.
• Offer ongoing legal advice throughout the entire litigation process.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Laws (or equivalent) with a current NSW practising certificate.
• Minimum 5 years post‑admission experience in liability or professional indemnity, including insurance policy advice and coverage disputes.
• Strong knowledge of Australian tort law, civil procedure, and relevant legislation.
• Proven ability to mentor and supervise junior lawyers.
• Exceptional research, analytical, and problem‑solving abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a commercial approach.
