Senior Associate / Special Counsel – Construction & Infrastructure Disputes

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Associate or Special Counsel to join our Construction & Infrastructure practice in Sydney or Canberra. Working closely with senior partners, you will advise a diverse client base on complex, contentious construction matters.

Key responsibilities

• Manage complex construction and infrastructure disputes from inception through to resolution.
• Advise clients on contractual disputes, delay and disruption claims, defects claims and variations disputes.
• Represent clients in litigation before State and Federal Courts.
• Act for clients in domestic and international arbitrations.
• Handle Security of Payment claims, adjudications and related proceedings.
• Draft pleadings, witness statements, submissions and other court and arbitration documents.
• Provide strategic risk management and dispute avoidance advice.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships.
• Supervise and mentor junior lawyers within the team.
• Contribute to business development initiatives and client engagement activities.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer with at least 6 years post‑qualification experience.
• Strong experience in construction and infrastructure disputes.
• Excellent drafting, research and analytical abilities.
• Proven ability to manage complex matters and build client relationships.
• Experience supervising junior lawyers and contributing to business development.

Required skills

• Advanced legal drafting and research skills.
• Knowledge of construction contracts and dispute resolution mechanisms.
• Familiarity with litigation and arbitration procedures in Australia.
