Senior Associate Engineer – Bridges & Structures

About the role

SMEC is seeking a Senior Associate Engineer to lead bridge and structural design on major rail and metro projects in Western Australia. You will provide technical leadership, oversee complex packages, and engage directly with clients and multidisciplinary teams.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of bridge and structural components for rail and metro projects.
• Provide technical oversight, peer review, and sign‑off on complex structural designs.
• Act as a technical leader and mentor for the Bridges & Structures team.
• Manage project scope, programme, budget, and resourcing for key packages.
• Collaborate with rail, civil, geotechnical and drainage disciplines to deliver integrated solutions.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships with government agencies and major contractors.
• Support bid development, proposals and strategic project pursuits.

Required profile

• Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• 12+ years experience in structural bridge design within the transport infrastructure sector, preferably in Australia.
• Significant experience designing bridges for rail or other transport projects.
