Senior Advisor, Government Relations and Policy

About the role

The Senior Advisor, Government Relations and Policy will support ANZ’s engagement with federal and state governments, opposition parties and the Australian Banking Association. You will help shape the bank’s response to policy developments and ensure alignment with ANZ’s purpose, culture and values.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and constructively respond to Australian Government policy that impacts ANZ.
• Keep internal stakeholders informed of political perspectives and policy changes.
• Build and maintain ethical relationships with Ministers, their offices, central Commonwealth departments and Parliamentarians.
• Manage ANZ’s relationship with the Australian Banking Association and other industry groups.
• Oversee operational risk of the GRP team, ensuring compliance with laws on political donations, competition and lobbying.
• Assist in preparing for appearances before parliamentary committees and external bodies.
• Support internal teams in promoting awareness of relevant policy developments.

Required profile

• 7+ years experience as a legal practitioner or in a policy role within a ministerial office, government department, regulator or a large regulated organisation.
• Proven ability to build enduring, collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Strong understanding of political, regulatory and lobbying frameworks affecting the banking sector.
• Demonstrated skill in analysing and responding to political and policy issues relevant to banking.
