Secondary Generalist Teacher – Big Picture Learning

About the role

John Tonkin College is building a pool of Secondary Generalist teachers who will work within the Big Picture Learning framework. The role focuses on personalised, project‑based learning that connects students to real‑world pathways in further education, training and employment.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver curriculum that aligns with the Western Australian Curriculum while embedding Big Picture principles.
• Facilitate advisory groups, fostering strong relationships and student agency.
• Develop authentic, interdisciplinary projects and community partnerships.
• Assess and reflect on student progress, adapting learning experiences to diverse needs.
• Collaborate with colleagues to promote innovative and inclusive teaching practices.

Required profile

• Commitment to the Big Picture Learning philosophy and student‑centred pedagogy.
• Experience or strong interest in secondary generalist teaching.
• Ability to work collaboratively and engage in reflective practice.
• Understanding of the Western Australian Curriculum and contemporary educational technologies.
