Secondary Design Engineer

About the role

Join WSP’s Transmission & Electrification team to provide critical electrical engineering expertise on major projects across Australia. You will design secondary systems, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to the energy transition.

Key responsibilities

• Design and review secondary systems and protection schemes for transmission and distribution projects.
• Prepare technical documentation such as design reports, equipment specifications, cable schedules, and interface documents.
• Support high‑voltage scopes for Owner’s Engineer and Technical Due Diligence projects.
• Lead or support design projects and coordinate across disciplines including Primary, SCADA, Power Systems, Structural and Drafting.
• Undertake short‑term site visits as needed.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 2–10 years’ experience in technical delivery of transmission and distribution projects, preferably in consultancy.
• RPEQ/RPEV registration or ability to attain.
• Knowledge of EHV/HV electrical engineering from concept to detailed design.

Required skills

• Secondary design expertise – protection, control, AC/DC systems.
• SCADA systems knowledge.
• IEC61850 implementation experience (highly desirable).
