Safety Advisor

About the role

The Safety Advisor will partner closely with operational leaders at the Capcoal Open Cut operation to identify, assess and control critical risks, ensuring compliance with legislative, regulatory and company requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with operational leaders to identify, assess and manage site risks, ensuring effective control of material and critical risks.
• Lead and facilitate risk assessments, incident investigations and risk reviews to drive continuous improvement.
• Coordinate and maintain site risk, compliance and assurance frameworks aligned with legislation and company standards.
• Develop and deliver assurance activities such as audits, inspections and critical control verifications.
• Provide expert advice on risk management, compliance obligations and Safety and Health Management System (SHMS) requirements.
• Coach leaders in applying risk management processes, critical controls and governance practices.
• Monitor emerging risks, analyse trends and provide insights and recommendations to site leadership.

Required profile

• Undergraduate qualification (Bachelor/Honours degree or equivalent) in a relevant discipline such as Safety.
• Previous experience working in a coal mine and knowledge of Queensland coal mining legislation.
• Current Manual Drivers Licence.
• Ability to influence stakeholders and work autonomously with strong time‑management skills.

Required skills

• Working knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint.
• Experience with Isometrics or other safety management systems.
• Familiarity with compliance registers such as “Environment Essentials”.
