Resident Medical Officer – Paediatrics & General

About the role

The Department of Paediatrics at Mackay Base Hospital is seeking two Resident Medical Officers on a temporary full‑time basis (76 hours per fortnight). The role offers a blended six‑month Paediatrics rotation and a six‑month General rotation, providing broad clinical exposure in a regional referral setting.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and ongoing management of neonates, infants, children, adolescents and adult patients under appropriate supervision.
• Provide care across inpatient, outpatient and emergency settings during the Paediatrics rotation.
• Support multidisciplinary teams in general medical, surgical and specialty units during the General rotation.
• Participate in patient‑centred care, quality improvement and educational activities.

Required profile

• Medical graduate eligible for Resident Medical Officer registration.
• Willingness to work under supervision and develop competencies aligned with postgraduate training requirements.
• Commitment to vaccination against listed vaccine‑preventable diseases as a condition of employment.
• Ability to adapt to regional healthcare challenges and collaborate within a team‑oriented environment.
