Research Associate – Criminology (Fixed‑Term)

About the role

The College of Business, Government and Law at Flinders University is seeking a Research Associate in Criminology to contribute to the Australian Research Council funded Industry Laureate project “Breaking the Prison‑Reoffending Cycle”. The role involves conducting high‑impact research on offender rehabilitation and desistance across NSW public prisons.

Key responsibilities

• Design and lead qualitative and longitudinal research activities in correctional settings.
• Collaborate with correctional agencies, industry partners and academic teams.
• Support data analysis, literature reviews, publications and research reporting.
• Mentor and assist postgraduate research students.
• Conduct fieldwork and stakeholder engagement across NSW, including rural locations.

Required profile

• PhD in Criminology (or near completion), preferably focused on prisons, corrections or rehabilitation.
• Demonstrated experience in qualitative and longitudinal research methods.
• Growing record of scholarly publications and conference presentations.
• Proven ability to build effective research‑industry partnerships.
• Experience supporting collaborative and postgraduate research activities.

• Fixed‑term contract until 30 June 2030 (full‑time, Academic Level A I).
• Salary range $90,930 – $110,197 per annum plus 17 % superannuation.
