Remote Early Childhood Supports Occupational Therapist

About the role

Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services (KAMS), the peak regional Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service in the Kimberley region of Western Australia, is recruiting a full-time Occupational Therapist for its Remote Early Childhood Supports (RECS) program. Based in Broome, the therapist works within the Early Childhood Support Allied Health Team, supporting Aboriginal children aged up to 9 years with developmental delays or disabilities through culturally sensitive assessment and intervention.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct evidence-based assessments and interventions within a multidisciplinary, family-centred framework.
• Deliver occupational therapy services that support self-care, sensory processing, emotional regulation and social skills, and empower parents and caregivers with practical strategies.
• Advocate for and coordinate with community-based services to strengthen support for Aboriginal families.
• Develop and run strategies that improve access to childhood development services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
• Support Family Support Workers in delivering the RECS program and train them on occupational therapy services.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Occupational Therapy and current AHPRA registration.
• Strong background in children's therapy, especially developmental delays and disabilities, and experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations.
• Knowledge of family-centred and strengths-based early intervention approaches.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team, and willingness to travel regularly across the Kimberley region.
• Commitment to culturally sensitive practice and ability to set functional goals for children in their natural environments.

What we offer

• Base salary of $131,602 per year.
• Accommodation allowance of $13,000 p.a. pro rata, district allowance of $2,920 (single) or $5,840 (double) p.a. pro rata, annual airfare of $1,285 p.a. pro rata and electricity allowance of $1,440 p.a. pro rata.
