Regulatory Counsel – APAC (Australia)

About the role

Discord is seeking an experienced Regulatory Counsel to lead its APAC regulatory strategy from Australia. Reporting to the Director of Global Regulatory Legal, you will manage responses to regulatory inquiries, build relationships with authorities, and support the broader legal team across regions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and implement Discord’s responses to regulatory requests, assessing risks, gathering data, and drafting accurate replies.
• Engage with regional regulators, presenting Discord’s compliance approach and fostering long‑term trust.
• Prepare risk assessments, online safety reports, and other regulatory filings for APAC authorities.
• Monitor new and updated regulations with Public Policy teams, anticipating enforcement risks.
• Support Policy Legal and Product Legal in analyzing applicable laws and shaping strategic positioning.
• Collaborate with public policy and communications on safety narratives and public engagements.
• Maintain up‑to‑date templates on privacy, security, teen safety, and related topics.

Required profile

• 7+ years of experience in regulatory law related to internet, online safety, privacy, data protection, or consumer protection.
• Licensed to practice law in Australia.
• Experience in the communications, messaging, content, or gaming sectors.
• Deep knowledge of Australia’s platform, privacy, data protection, and consumer protection regulations.
• Familiarity with broader APAC regulatory environments or ability to quickly learn regional requirements.
