ReefScan System Developer

About the role
The ReefScan System Developer will advance marine survey technology by creating and maintaining software for the ReefScan ecosystem at the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS). Working closely with the Reef Joint Field Management Program, you will ensure that ReefScan devices operate reliably in remote, low‑connectivity marine environments.
Key responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain the ReefScan Field Console and browser‑based interfaces.
- Implement communication protocols between edge devices and backend services.
- Integrate ReefScan software with the Digital Oceans framework for enhanced data analytics.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to translate operational needs into software solutions.
- Provide technical guidance, documentation, and troubleshooting for ongoing platform improvements.
Required profile
- Post‑graduate qualification in computer science, software engineering, information technology, or equivalent industry experience.
- Proven ability to develop modern web applications and work with distributed systems.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and capacity to work in a collaborative research environment.
