Range Operator – Defence Training Area

About the role

Ventia is seeking a motivated Range Operator to support the safe and efficient operation of the Bindoon Training Area for Australia’s Defence Community. This hands‑on position involves preparing live‑fire ranges, maintaining target systems, and contributing to health, safety and environmental initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and present ranges ready for customer operations.
• Maintain live‑fire target systems at peak performance.
• Participate in HSE inspections and land‑management activities.
• Respond to bushfire incidents, protecting people, property and the environment.
• Manufacture, repair and service training targets.
• Ensure compliance with Range Standing Orders and company safety standards.

Required profile

• Experience in grounds, land management or Defence‑related roles (advantageous).
• Bush‑fire fighting qualifications and First Aid certification (advantageous).
• Eligibility for Defence Security Clearance – Australian citizenship required.
• Commitment to teamwork, integrity and continuous improvement.

Required skills

• Basic proficiency with MS Office.
• Competence using tools and equipment for range operations.
• Ability to read maps and navigate using vehicle‑based systems.

What we offer

• Hourly rate $30.00 – $33.43 (commensurate with experience) plus applicable allowances.
• Work‑use vehicle provided; pool vehicle on‑site when required.
• Monday‑Friday schedule, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm with overtime opportunities.
