Quality Assurance Inspector – Refinery Shutdown

About the role
UGL is seeking an experienced, safety‑focused Quality Assurance Inspector to support the AMPOL Lytton Refinery shutdown in Brisbane from mid‑July to September 2026. You will lead quality inspections on critical welding and fabrication activities in a high‑risk industrial environment.
Key responsibilities
- Inspect and verify all welding and fabrication work against relevant codes, standards and project specifications.
- Ensure compliance with client quality requirements and UGL procedures.
- Monitor and enforce Safety, Health and Environmental requirements on site.
- Review and approve WPS, WPQ, welder qualifications, ITPs, work packs and welding traceability documentation.
- Conduct welding inspections throughout the full lifecycle: fit‑up, alignment, pre‑heat, tacking, root runs and final welds.
- Perform visual inspections, prepare for NDE, and carry out dimensional inspections against IFC drawings.
- Audit welding consumables, storage, issue and equipment calibration.
- Liaise with supervisors, subcontractors and client representatives on welding and fabrication matters.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and assist with QA documentation and final handover.
Required profile
- Relevant trade qualification (e.g., AS1796 Certificate 10).
- Welding Inspector Certification (AS1796) – required; Welding Supervisor Certification (AS2214) – desirable.
- 3–5 years of QA/QC or supervisory welding experience on shutdowns, power stations, refineries or heavy‑industrial projects.
- Strong knowledge of AS1554, AS1796, AS2980 and ISO 9001 QA systems.
