Python Backend Engineer (Remote Contractor)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Python Backend Engineer to work remotely on a part‑time contract (10‑12 hours per week). You will help train and evaluate next‑generation AI systems by tackling real‑world software engineering challenges across backend, full‑stack, and infrastructure domains.

Key responsibilities

• Take on diverse engineering tasks involving APIs, databases, services, integrations, testing, and deployment workflows.
• Review, debug, improve, and clearly explain code in unfamiliar codebases.
• Assess trade‑offs related to scalability, performance, reliability, security, and developer experience.
• Document technical reasoning in writing, outlining why solutions work and alternative options.
• Collaborate with the client’s team on technical reviews, implementation decisions, and problem‑solving exercises.
• Adapt quickly to new frameworks, tools, and technical requirements.

Required profile

• 5+ years of hands‑on software engineering experience.
• Strong judgment in software design, debugging, testing, and architecture.
• Ability to communicate complex engineering decisions clearly and objectively.
• Comfortable reading and reasoning through unfamiliar code or specifications.

Required skills

• Python (primary backend language).
• Experience with at least one of: JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, Java, C#.NET, C++, Go, Ruby, PHP.
• Building and maintaining production‑level APIs, services, and databases.
• Understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with containers, monitoring, and DevOps workflows.
• Exposure to frontend frameworks such as React, Next.js, Angular, Vue, or React Native (optional).
