Purchasing Officer

About the role

Randstad is recruiting on behalf of a leading South Australian company for a highly organised and proactive Purchasing Officer to join a fast-paced supply chain team. The role suits someone who thrives in ERP environments, excels at supplier negotiation and enjoys driving cost-saving initiatives. It is a temporary, full-time position.

Key responsibilities

• Generate, place and expedite purchase orders through the ERP system according to real-time requirements.
• Monitor inventory closely to prevent shortages and avoid production downtime.
• Track and report on supplier metrics.
• Work daily with production planners, the warehouse and engineers to keep operations running smoothly.
• Take ownership of damaged parts and manage returns and dispute processes.
• Resolve invoice and receipt discrepancies with Accounts Payable.
• Negotiate pricing, payment terms and delivery schedules.
• Ensure suppliers meet sustainability, quality and corporate compliance standards.

Required profile

• Proven purchasing or procurement experience, preferably in manufacturing, engineering or heavy industry.
• Exceptional communication and negotiation skills, able to hold suppliers accountable to on-time targets.
• Meticulous attention to detail when resolving invoice discrepancies or quality non-conformances.
• Collaborative approach, working hands-on with warehouse and production teams.
