Prosecutor – Queensland Police Service

About the role

The Prosecutor provides professional prosecution services for the Queensland Police Service, delivering legal advice and representation in Magistrates, Children’s and Coroners Courts. The role is based in Cairns and works within a combined team of sworn and civilian prosecutors supported by administration staff.

Key responsibilities

• Provide a prosecution service for the assigned area of responsibility.
• Represent the Service and its members in court proceedings and applications before Magistrates, Children’s and Coroners Courts.
• Offer legal advice on court processes and related matters.
• Monitor the quality of police briefs of evidence to ensure high standards.
• Liaise, consult and negotiate with Queensland Police Service members, the legal profession, government agencies and the community.
• Identify environmental factors affecting the work area and contribute to legal research, argument, submissions, opinion and advice.
• Maintain high standards of performance and conduct in daily activities.

Required profile

• Ability to provide comprehensive prosecution services.
• Experience representing law enforcement agencies in court settings.
• Strong understanding of court processes and evidence preparation.
• Effective communication and negotiation skills with internal and external stakeholders.
