Project Officer – Litigation and Coronial Matters

About the role

The Department of Justice and Community Safety is looking for a Project Officer to support Litigation and Coronial Matters within Corrections Victoria. This fixed‑term, full‑time position will be based in Melbourne and offers flexible work arrangements.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and manage Corrections Victoria’s responses to prison‑related deaths, coronial inquiries and litigation matters.
• Gather and analyse information from databases, prison staff and external stakeholders to prepare briefings and correspondence.
• Maintain accurate records, track deadlines and monitor the progress of all coronial and litigation cases.
• Interpret Corrections Victoria policies and procedures to ensure compliant and effective responses.
• Provide administrative support to the Manager, Litigation & Coronial Matters, including preparation of reports and performance monitoring.
• Assist with state‑wide oversight functions such as incident reporting, family violence information sharing requests and internal reviews.

Required profile

• Knowledge of the Victorian correctional system and its legislative framework.
• Experience in handling administrative workloads in a legal or justice environment.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for liaison with senior management and external agencies.
