Project Geologist - Discovery

About the role

Northern Star Resources is looking for a Project Geologist to join its Discovery team at Kalgoorlie Operations, in the heart of the Kalgoorlie Gold Fields. Reporting to the Senior Geologist, you will supervise safe, effective and efficient exploration aimed at increasing mineral resources on projects suitable to support Operational Life of Mine plans. The roster is residential 5/2 – 4/3, with 10-hour days, and Kalgoorlie residents or those willing to relocate are encouraged to apply.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, budget and supervise exploration programs to test targets and define or upgrade mineral resources.
• Supervise and mentor graduates, geologists and geological technicians.
• Supervise contractors and suppliers involved in exploration on the project.
• Carry out QA/QC monitoring and validation of exploration results.
• Assist in preparing annual budgets and statutory reports, and deliver periodic progress reports on time and in the required format.
• Liaise with Growth, Resource and Operational Geology, metallurgists and engineers.

Required profile

• Minimum five years of geology experience in an exploration/discovery role, preferably in a gold mining operation.
• Tertiary qualification in Geology (minimum degree).
• Current unencumbered Western Australian C-class driver's licence.
• Awareness of the Mine Safety and Inspection Act and regulations, and of tenement management and relevant legislation.

Required skills

• Mapping, structural geology, geochemistry, drilling and sampling techniques.
• Some understanding of resource estimation methods.
• Microsoft Office, Vulcan, AcQuire database, logging software and GIS packages such as ArcView and/or MapInfo.
