Project Director – Building Construction

About the role

Our client, an international main contractor operating across Africa, is seeking a Project Director to lead multiple building construction projects in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. The role offers full ownership from mobilisation to hand‑over, with responsibility for safety, schedule, budget and quality.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a portfolio of new‑build projects, primarily hospitals, clinics and other institutional buildings.
• Maintain full P&L, budgeting and forecasting responsibility, ensuring delivery within budget and programme.
• Ensure compliance with safety, quality and regulatory standards on all sites.
• Develop, motivate and manage multidisciplinary project teams to achieve high performance.
• Build and sustain strong relationships with clients, consultants and subcontractors.
• Report progress and financial performance to senior leadership.
• Oversee broader operational functions such as HR, recruitment and legal where required.

Required profile

• Proven track record delivering new‑build construction projects for a recognised main contractor.
• Full commercial ownership experience, including P&L, budgeting and forecasting.
• Strong leadership and people‑management capabilities.
• Excellent client‑facing and relationship‑building skills.
• Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
• Experience in consultancy or client‑side organisations will not be considered.
