About the role
As a Producer of The Australian’s flagship daily news podcast The Front, you will work closely with host Claire Harvey and the editorial team to bring journalism to life in both video and audio formats. The role is primarily office‑based with flexible work‑from‑home options, and may require evenings and weekends to meet news deadlines.
Key responsibilities
- Attend daily news conferences, pitch topics, schedule interviews and manage technical recording and filming for studio and remote guests.
- Edit long‑form video and audio, create short social clips, and write promotional articles or scripts for The Australian’s platforms.
- Collaborate with editorial, legal, social, publishing, marketing and commercial teams to ensure stories are sound and to publish episodes and sponsorships.
- Assist with workflow planning, team management and staff rostering.
Required profile
- Extensive journalism experience with strong news judgment and storytelling ability, especially under breaking‑news pressure.
- High ethical standards, reliability, good humour and an innovative, problem‑solving mindset.
- Understanding of legal compliance (defamation, contempt, privacy) and proven fact‑checking expertise.
Required skills
- Proficiency in audio/video recording (studio and remote) and video editing.
- Experience with Descript (multi‑speaker video), Pro Tools, Adobe Premiere Pro and Google Drive file management.
- Ability to write and script‑edit interviews, voice‑overs and promotional copy.
- Competence in monitoring, analysing and reporting cross‑platform analytics and metrics.
