Principal Traffic Engineer

About the role

Arcadis is seeking a Principal Traffic Engineer to lead and contribute to transport planning projects across Australia. The role is based on the East Coast and can be performed from Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane or the Gold Coast with a hybrid working model.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and deliver traffic impact assessments, active transport plans, multimodal strategies and strategic studies.
• Act as Project Manager on transport planning and traffic engineering engagements, ensuring budget, schedule and quality targets are met.
• Serve as Traffic and Transport Discipline Lead on large multidisciplinary projects.
• Lead pursuits and proposals, collaborating with sector teams to develop client propositions.
• Mentor and support junior team members and contribute to business growth strategies.

Required profile

• 10+ years of experience in transport planning and traffic engineering.
• Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage projects.
• Strong written and verbal communication, stakeholder engagement and relationship‑building skills.

Required skills

• Traffic engineering principles, including road safety, intersection operations and local area traffic management.
• Active transport and multimodal network planning.
• Project management within multidisciplinary environments.
• Technical and commercial acumen in transport strategy development.
