Principal Management Accountant

About the role

The Principal Management Accountant will lead the financial and strategic budgetary management for a government client group. This senior position provides high‑level assistance, strategic leadership, and analytical support across budgeting, liquidity, and reporting activities.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and coordinate the department’s annual budget submission to the State government.
• Manage external budgets, forward estimates updates, and budget adjustments.
• Facilitate budget submissions, prepare budget papers, and maintain funding adjustment records.
• Provide fortnightly cash‑flow advice to ensure liquidity.
• Conduct independent financial analysis, forecasts, and performance indicator reviews.
• Prepare briefing notes and materials for senior officials and the annual estimates process.
• Contribute to monthly internal financial reporting, including income statements by service stream.
• Deliver financial reports to Queensland Treasury and other government departments.
• Liaise with senior management, Treasury officers, and departmental clients on budgetary matters.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in management accounting and government budgeting processes.
• Strong analytical capability for financial performance and cash‑flow analysis.
• Proven ability to produce high‑quality briefing notes and strategic financial advice.
• Experience preparing and presenting financial reports to senior officials.
