Principal Lawyer – Litigation Unit

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Principal Lawyer to join our Litigation Unit in the Brisbane CBD office. You will lead complex civil and criminal matters, providing high‑quality advocacy, negotiation and strategic advice.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage highly complex litigation files from inception to resolution.
• Conduct civil and criminal court proceedings and represent the department in court.
• Provide evidence‑based legal advice and influence key stakeholders on complex matters.
• Mentor junior lawyers, improve team practices and develop professional relationships.
• Collaborate with internal and external parties to resolve urgent, non‑routine legal issues.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer with strong advocacy and negotiation skills.
• Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions based on evidence and legal reasoning.
• Experience in civil and criminal court proceedings is advantageous.
• Proven management experience, including mentoring and process improvement.
