Principal, APAC Tax

About the role

Airbnb is seeking a senior tax professional to lead its APAC tax function. Based in Singapore (with possible placement in Australia for an exceptional candidate), the Principal will partner with country managers, finance, legal and policy teams to manage tax compliance, risk and strategy across the region.

Key responsibilities

• Own Airbnb’s tax obligations for APAC jurisdictions, including Australia and South Korea, and act as the primary tax point of contact.
• Manage local and regional tax audits, negotiations and interactions with tax authorities such as the Australian Taxation Office and the South Korean National Tax Service.
• Collaborate with external advisers and internal finance teams to identify opportunities to minimise tax liabilities.
• Monitor and analyse tax regulatory developments, communicate impacts to business units and update tax policy as needed.
• Provide tax input on new business initiatives, M&A transactions and integration of acquired entities.
• Lead special projects and support the implementation of tax strategies aligned with Airbnb’s growth objectives.

Required profile

• 12+ years of direct and indirect tax experience, primarily in a Big 4 accounting or law firm environment.
• Demonstrated experience managing tax compliance and audits across multiple APAC jurisdictions.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex tax legislation.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management abilities.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of APAC tax regulations (e.g., Australian GST, South Korean corporate tax).
• Experience handling tax audits and negotiations with government authorities.
• Proficiency in preparing tax technical advice and documentation.
