About the role

Join the Centre for Environmental Responsibility in Mining (CERM) at the University of Queensland as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow focused on sustainable water management. This full‑time, fixed‑term position (up to 1 year) offers the chance to work in a collaborative, purpose‑driven research environment and contribute to industry‑focused projects that shape mining practices worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct high‑impact research on sustainable water management across the mining lifecycle.
• Participate in industry‑focused consultancy projects and develop research funding applications.
• Publish research findings in peer‑reviewed journals, conference proceedings, and prepare technical reports and training materials.
• Supervise Honours and Higher Degree by Research students and contribute to researcher development.
• For senior level appointments: lead an independent research programme, secure competitive grants as Chief Investigator, and drive knowledge translation and commercialisation activities.

Required profile

• Inquisitive, collaborative researcher with a passion for sustainable outcomes in the mining sector.
• Ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams and deliver research with real‑world impact.

Required skills

• Master’s or PhD in engineering, environmental science, or a closely related discipline.
• Strong analytical and numerical capability.
• Experience with modelling, GIS, and coding (e.g., Python).
• Background in water management or mining‑related research/consultancy.
• Excellent written communication skills.
