Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Sociology & Social Policy

About the role

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to develop and lead independent sociology and social policy research focused on equity, social justice and social change at our Liverpool City Campus.

Key responsibilities

• Design and conduct high‑quality sociology research aligned with the School of Social Sciences agenda and UN Sustainable Development Goals.
• Produce scholarly publications and impact activities, and disseminate findings to academic and non‑academic audiences.
• Prepare and submit competitive Category 2‑4 research grant applications to external funding bodies.
• Build and maintain relationships with industry, policy makers and research funders.
• Contribute to the School’s research culture by organising workshops, seminars and peer‑to‑peer mentoring.
• Participate in departmental meetings and undertake professional development activities.

Required profile

• PhD in Sociology or a closely related discipline.
• Emerging research record with peer‑reviewed publications and involvement in funded projects, preferably in areas such as Sexualities and Genders, Challenging Racism or Critical Pedagogies.
• Demonstrated ability to translate research beyond academia through public engagement.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills for both academic and non‑academic audiences.
• Collaborative and collegial approach with strong interpersonal abilities.

What we offer

• Full‑time Fixed‑Term contract until 31 December 2028.
• Annual salary range $97,153 – $117,376 (Academic Level A) plus 17 % superannuation and leave loading.
