Pet Therapy Volunteer - Aged Care

About the role

HammondCare, an independent Christian charity providing the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme funded by the Australian Government, is looking for volunteers in Woy Woy to share music and lift spirits with residents in aged care. The role involves one-on-one or small-group pet therapy visits, where volunteers bring a well-behaved dog, a gentle tame bird or a rabbit to residents' rooms and common spaces.

Key responsibilities

• Move room to room and spend time in common areas, offering residents the company of a friendly dog, bird or rabbit.
• Help spark conversation, reduce loneliness and bring comfort and connection to residents.
• Visit regularly, matching with clients who need the company of an animal.

Required profile

• 18 years or older.
• An NDIS Worker Screening Check arranged and paid for by HammondCare.
• A well-behaved pet that loves people and enjoys gentle interactions.

Commitment

• One hour per week or fortnight, for a minimum of 6 months.
• A suitable day and time during the week (Monday to Sunday) can be arranged.

To apply, contact the volunteer recruitment coordinator by phone or text; if that is not possible, an email will follow up. More information is available on the HammondCare volunteering website.
