People & Culture Manager

About the role

As the People & Culture Manager at Mercure Townsville, you will lead the hotel’s HR function, shaping culture, driving talent acquisition, and ensuring an exceptional employee experience from recruitment through career development. Reporting to the General Manager and partnering with department heads, you will act as a trusted advisor and champion of our people‑first values.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement People & Culture strategies aligned with business objectives.
• Lead recruitment, onboarding, and talent attraction initiatives to build high‑performing teams.
• Provide coaching and guidance to leaders on employee relations and performance management.
• Ensure compliance with Australian employment legislation, HIGA standards, and workplace health & safety.
• Design and deliver learning, development, and succession planning programmes.
• Create recognition, wellbeing, and engagement initiatives.
• Maintain and improve HR policies, procedures, and systems.
• Analyse workforce metrics to support data‑driven decision making.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Business or related field.
• 3–5 years’ experience in an HR or People & Culture leadership role.
• Strong knowledge of Australian employment legislation, modern awards and workplace relations.
• Excellent communication, relationship‑building and organisational skills.
• Proactive, solutions‑focused mindset with solid commercial acumen.

Required skills

• Experience with HRIS and payroll systems.
