Payroll Specialist

About the role

The Payroll Specialist reports to the Director of National Payroll and is responsible for end‑to‑end payroll processing for Marriott properties in Australia. The role ensures timely and accurate payroll, benefits, and statutory reporting while supporting the payroll team.

Key responsibilities

• Process fortnightly payroll, including new starters, terminations, leave entitlements and redundancy calculations.
• Maintain employee payroll records, reconcile payroll reports and GL accounts, and prepare statutory filings such as PAYG, superannuation and payroll tax.
• Respond to employee payroll queries, support internal and external audits, and provide ad‑hoc reports.
• Identify and implement payroll process improvements and assist with month‑end and year‑end activities.
• Collaborate with HR and Finance teams across participating hotels and support stakeholder relationships.

Required profile

• Minimum of one year’s experience in payroll.
• Knowledge of federal and state wage award legislation, superannuation, payroll tax and leave provisions across multiple Australian states and territories.
• Strong analytical ability to interpret financial data and prepare reports.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with attention to detail.
• Team‑oriented, organized, and able to multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment.

Required skills

• ADP payroll system (or similar).
• Emplive Labour Management System (preferred).
• Microsoft Office Professional suite, especially Excel and Word.
