Payroll Officer

About the role

As a Payroll Officer at Horizon Nexus Partners, you will support the day‑to‑day financial and payroll operations of a growing professional services firm. You will ensure payroll accuracy, compliance with Australian legislation, and efficient processing for multiple entities.

Key responsibilities

• Process end‑to‑end payroll on fortnightly and monthly cycles for several entities, maintaining accuracy and timeliness.
• Maintain employee payroll records, including new starters, terminations, leave balances and adjustments.
• Ensure compliance with awards, enterprise agreements, tax, superannuation and payroll‑tax obligations.
• Handle superannuation, PAYG withholding, payroll‑tax reconciliations and related reporting.
• Respond to payroll queries from employees and stakeholders promptly and professionally.
• Assist with month‑end and year‑end financial processes, including journal entries and reconciliations.
• Prepare and reconcile bank, balance‑sheet and payroll‑related accounts.
• Support accounts payable and receivable functions, liaising with creditors and processing payments.
• Contribute to management and financial reporting, and support audit activities as required.

Required profile

• 3+ years experience in payroll and/or accounting roles.
• Strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation, awards, tax and superannuation.
• High attention to detail, excellent organisational abilities and ability to manage competing priorities.
• Effective communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
