Patient Flow Manager (Nurse Manager Grade 3)

About the role

Hunter New England Local Health District is seeking an experienced Nurse Manager Grade 3 to join the Patient Flow Unit at the new North Block building at John Hunter Hospital. The role provides district-wide leadership and coordination of inter-hospital patient transfers, supporting safe, timely and efficient patient movement across HNE public health facilities. It is a permanent part-time position of 34 hours per week.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate district-wide patient transfers, including clinical handover, transfer timeframes and bed placement for Priority Category 2-5 patients.
• Provide clinical advice and act as a central point of contact for referrals and transfers, liaising with hospital teams, HNE Executive, NSW Ambulance and Patient Transport Services.
• Monitor district-wide patient flow, identify and escalate barriers to access, and work with other Nurse Managers to resolve patient flow challenges.

Required profile

• Relevant postgraduate qualification in clinical leadership or management.
• Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA and authority to practise.
• Comprehensive understanding of the NSW Ministry of Health policy framework, priorities and performance indicators for acute care, patient flow and access.
• Demonstrated knowledge of patient management and relevant health information technology systems.
• Australian citizenship, Australian permanent residency, or New Zealand citizenship with a current passport; visa sponsorship is not available.
