Patient Eligibility & Private Patient Optimisation Lead

About the role

Mercy Health's Patient Support Services & Systems team has two full-time opportunities, one at Mercy Hospital for Women and one at Werribee Mercy Hospital. This newly created role leads initiatives that improve the patient experience, strengthen private patient processes and reduce avoidable Medicare ineligible debt, working with operational, clinical and corporate stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Lead strategic initiatives that strengthen patient eligibility assessments, private patient election processes and patient administration practices across Mercy Health.
• Design and implement process improvements that optimise private patient conversions, patient financial engagement and compliance while enhancing the patient experience.
• Partner with clinical, operational and corporate teams to deliver sustainable improvements, reduce avoidable debt and support consistent, patient-centred practices across hospital sites.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in private patient services, patient eligibility, revenue optimisation, patient accounts or health information/patient administration within a public health setting.
• Demonstrated experience leading service improvement, operational transformation, process redesign or optimisation in a healthcare environment.
• Experience developing strategies that improve private patient conversion, reduce avoidable debt and strengthen financial outcomes.
• Strong project management, business analysis and stakeholder engagement skills, able to influence without direct reporting authority.
• Experience using data and performance insights to identify opportunities and drive continuous improvement.
• Excellent communication, facilitation and relationship-building skills.
• Police Record Check and Working with Children Check, proof of influenza vaccination and other vaccinations consistent with public health orders.

Required skills

• Private patient election processes in Victorian public health services, including regulatory, compliance and documentation requirements.
• Health fund eligibility, coverage requirements and private patient billing processes.
• Medicare eligibility requirements, Medicare ineligible patient management, overseas patient charging arrangements and associated compliance obligations.
