Pastoral Care Volunteer

About the role

HammondCare is looking for a compassionate social volunteer to provide a weekly visit to an elderly lady who would greatly appreciate companionship grounded in shared faith. The volunteer offers a listening ear, comfort, presence and hope, and may read scripture passages or play and sing hymns during the visit. The volunteer works alongside the HammondCare At Home Pastoral Care Coordinator.

Key responsibilities

• Visit the client once a week or every two weeks, depending on availability, for about an hour between 9am and 4pm, Monday to Sunday.
• Provide companionship, conversation and spiritual support, complementing the work of the Pastoral Care Coordinator.
• Support people to meet their spiritual needs and nurture their spiritual development.
• Read scripture passages or sing hymns during the visit, if the client enjoys it.

Required profile

• 18 years or older.
• NDIS screening and a National Volunteer Police Check arranged and paid for by HammondCare.
• High level of interpersonal skills, including strong empathy and listening skills.
• Pastoral Care training such as Chaplaincy or Clinical Pastoral Education, or willingness to complete HammondCare's Spiritual Care Series training.
