Paralegal – Child Protection Litigation Support

About the role

Paralegals play a critical role in supporting the Statewide Child Protection Litigation Office (CPLO) by assisting solicitors who provide legal advice, case management and representation for the child protection program. Reporting to the Team Leader Child Protection Litigation Support, the role works alongside the Metropolitan West Melbourne CPLO team and the wider statewide paralegal team.

Key responsibilities

• Perform file and record management, including data entry into LEX, SharePoint and other IT systems.
• Prepare matter management reports and process invoices while monitoring external legal spend.
• Coordinate court listings, case allocations and barrister briefings across various jurisdictions.
• Draft forms, documents, correspondence and other material required for litigation.
• Brief counsel for matters in the Children’s Court, Family Court and other courts as needed.
• Answer queries, provide timely advice and correctly redirect incoming mail and communications.
• Serve as a point of contact for stakeholders from diverse organisations.
• Travel to Children’s Court locations to support legal teams when required.

Required profile

• Strong attention to detail and ability to work collaboratively in a team.
• Excellent communication skills, with sensitivity to vulnerable clients.
• Australian citizenship, permanent residency or a valid work permit.
• Willingness to undergo pre‑employment screening, including a national police check and misconduct screening.

Required skills

• Experience with legal case management systems such as LEX, SharePoint, OurBriefings and the Children’s Court Case Management System (CMS).
• Proficiency in data entry, document preparation and report generation.
• Familiarity with court processes and litigation support activities.
