Optimisation Software Engineer – Mine Planning (Hybrid, 12‑mo Contract)

About the role

This contract role focuses on building optimisation capabilities for mine planning and scheduling. You will work on solver integrations, model development and desktop tools to support large‑scale operational decisions. The position is hybrid, requiring three days per week onsite in Perth.

Key responsibilities

• Develop production‑ready optimisation models and solver integrations for mine planning.
• Design and implement desktop application features for scenario analysis.
• Write APIs and data pipelines that connect optimisation platforms with enterprise systems.
• Automate batch processing and execution of optimisation workflows.
• Improve performance, conduct regression testing and produce technical documentation.

Required profile

• Strong C++ development experience, especially in high‑performance or systems‑level code.
• Familiarity with AMPL or a comparable optimisation modelling framework.
• Hands‑on experience with mathematical optimisation, linear programming or mixed‑integer programming.
• Background in building desktop applications with rich user workflows.
• Experience integrating external APIs, libraries and commercial solvers.
• Exposure to mining optimisation, scheduling or operational planning systems.
• Ability to work with large datasets, tune performance and scale optimisation models.
• Understanding of cloud‑enabled execution, distributed processing and automation frameworks.
