Operations Manager - Airport Ground Handling

About the role

Northwest Aviation (NWAS) is seeking an Operations Manager to oversee the safe, efficient and effective delivery of ground handling operations at its airport port. The role also involves developing and supporting team members, maximising service standards and productivity, maintaining strong relationships with customer airlines and ensuring staff present a professional image. It is an additional position, with two Operations Managers sharing responsibility for the operation; both must be residents of Broome.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and submit corporate and airline reports accurately and on time
• Conduct regular self-audits and ensure compliance with company procedures, airline requirements and safety standards
• Maintain strong relationships with customer airlines and resolve operational issues promptly
• Oversee the maintenance, servicing and availability of Ground Support Equipment (GSE)
• Plan for and manage safe operations during irregular conditions such as disruptions
• Protect and improve on-time performance of customer airlines
• Manage and develop the team, including workforce planning, rostering, training, performance management, mentoring and succession planning
• Monitor operational performance and implement improvements to service delivery and productivity
• Ensure appropriate staffing levels, employee competency and operational readiness

Required profile

• Resident of Broome with a strong understanding of the local community
• Airport experience in a management or similar role is essential
• Strong leadership, communication and problem-solving skills
• Solid administrative capability with good understanding of operational reporting and performance monitoring
• Willingness to work operationally when and where required, including outside usual hours, split shifts and weekends
