Network Technical Specialist (Defence, Canberra)

About the role

Telstra is hiring a Network Technical Specialist for a permanent, onsite role in Canberra supporting its Defence customers and networks. The position provides specialised 24x7 technical network expertise and support, and suits an NV1-cleared Network Engineer with some experience, or someone starting a career in Network Operations. It is a Defence role requiring a minimum Australian Government NV1 security clearance.

Key responsibilities

• Investigate and help resolve network incidents and alarms.
• Assist with network changes following customer and management processes.
• Keep accurate records and support service reporting.
• Join incident calls and provide technical updates.
• Follow change, incident and problem management guidelines.
• Carry out standard operational tasks and maintenance.

Required profile

• Active NV1 security clearance (mandatory); NV2 is a bonus.
• Ideally 1-2 years of hands-on experience in Network Operations.
• Defence or enterprise ICT environment experience desirable.
• ITIL Foundation or Practitioner certification desirable.

Required skills

• Understanding of data communications, routing, switching and telecommunications.
• Familiarity with VLANs, Spanning-Tree, wireless technologies and WAN/BAN routing protocols (OSPF, BGP).
• Exposure to Juniper, Cisco, Nortel or Avaya networking products.
