Mining Superintendent (Load & Haul) - Dawson Mine

About the role

Dawson Mine, an open-cut steelmaking coal mine operated by Anglo American near Moura, Queensland, is looking for an experienced Mining Superintendent (Load & Haul) to lead its Load & Haul team. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the role provides clear, visible leadership and is responsible for safely delivering the mine plan, developing frontline leaders and keeping people, equipment and resources aligned to reliable production. It suits an established Mining Superintendent or an experienced Co-ordinator/Supervisor ready for greater accountability.

Key responsibilities

• Manage production activities and deliver against agreed targets and schedules, safely and in line with safety and statutory procedures.
• Liaise with Maintenance, Technical and other support services to set production priorities and embed them in production design and schedules.
• Prioritise equipment and people and negotiate between Excavator and Shovel areas to meet business needs.
• Monitor, measure and reconcile work to keep the team informed of changes to the mine plan.
• Lead the team in identifying risks and opportunities and create action plans for improvement.
• Maintain a proactive safety culture through toolbox talks, hazard awareness and training, and recommend safety improvements.
• Coach staff, give performance feedback and foster collaborative relationships.

Required profile

• Demonstrated leadership experience leading coal mine workers and supervisors in an open-cut mine.
• Hold Mining Supervisor competency (G1, G8 and G9).
• Valid QLD driver's licence (Open: C Class).
• Advantageous: trade certificate, OCE ticket or tertiary degree in Mining Engineering, and a Certificate IV in Surface Coal Mining (Open Cut Examiner) or on a pathway to it.
• Track record of driving continuous improvement.
