Mining Engineer – Brisbane (Weipa operations)

About the role

Rio Tinto is seeking a Mining Engineer to support its Weipa bauxite operations from a Brisbane‑based office. You will use technical expertise to improve productivity, ensure a continuous supply chain, and develop leadership capability within a global, safety‑focused environment.

Key responsibilities

• Develop the monthly mine plan based on quarterly targets and shipping requirements.
• Translate quarterly objectives into detailed operational actions to maintain a steady bauxite flow.
• Provide up‑to‑date guidance on mine status and initiate corrective actions when deviations occur.
• Coordinate with stakeholders to gather inputs for planning and monitor implementation against actual performance.
• Prepare and submit mid‑month and end‑of‑month reconciliations.
• Engage customers and internal teams to ensure successful execution of the planning process.
• Demonstrate safe leadership behaviours aligned with Rio Tinto values.

Required profile

• Commitment to personal and team safety.
• Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
• Proven experience in mining operations with a focus on productivity improvement.
• Strong numerical analysis and data validation abilities.
• Experience preparing accurate monthly development plans.
• Ability to work autonomously and engage effectively with frontline leaders and stakeholders.

Required skills

• Microsoft Excel (intermediate to advanced).
• Deswik mine‑planning software.
