Medical Officer

About the role

Provide expert clinical guidance while supporting donor and recipient safety for Lifeblood, Australia’s national blood service. The role combines office work, donor‑centre visits and home‑based duties, reporting to the Lead Medical Officer and collaborating with a multidisciplinary medical team.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver medical advice to optimise donor, recipient and blood component safety.
• Staff a rostered telephone advisory line and respond to enquiries during evenings and weekends after training.
• Attend weekly at the office and donor centres across the nation.
• Participate in research projects that inform medical policy development.
• Liaise with medical specialists, nurses, scientists and administrative staff.

Required profile

• Medical degree with current full registration on the Medical Board of Australia.
• Minimum two years of clinical experience.
• Ability to work independently and within cross‑functional teams.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with internal and external stakeholders.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Office.
• Ability to quickly learn and use Blood Service databases.
• Experience with telephony‑related applications.
• Familiarity with the Blood Service intranet.
